10 Brilliant Small Apartment Hacks

1. Mirror on the Wall

One trick I think we’ve all come to love and appreciate is how you can use mirrors to make a small space appear larger. The right mirror can give an illusion of space. Unless you try to walk into the mirror, this is such an easy hack that makes a surprising big difference!

2. Shelves… Everywhere

Wall shelves are the ultimate small apartment living hack! Think about if though, if you stick everything up on the walls, you’re saving up precious floor space! OK it doesn’t have to be aggressively sticking things up on the wall. There are actually some really cute ways to mount wall storage that is non intrusive. Check out some cute ideas below.

3. Use Light Colors

Bright colors always, always brighten up a space and also just make it appear to be larger. And I’m talking light colors in terms of things like wall color and lighting. In my tiny apartment I always go for white light (the harsher the better, if my eyeballs aren’t burning it’s not bright enough) instead of golden lighting just because it give that little extra illusion of space…

4. Plants on Platformed Stands

SHOP AT AMAZON

Plants give life to any space and a cool hack is putting them up in a little tiered platform instead of strewn along the floor. It’s definitely an interesting way to keep you plants but it does give you that extra space while also giving you the beauty and aesthetic of owning plants. And if you’re like me and can’t keep a plant alive to save yourself, you can still keep your fake plants this way and still have it look just as good!

5. Couch to Separate Spaces

If you live in a studio apartment or a one room type of situation, this hack is a life saver. I love to compartmentalize things, like things just always have to have designated places. So the very idea of a big free for all space just gives me anxiety. A couch is such a neat way to demarcate spaces and if you do it well you can section two spaces with one placement of furniture!

It’s for people that need to air dry their clothing for whatever reason. It is really handy because you just fold it and unfold it whenever you need it!

7. Hanging Shower Caddy

Now if your really pressed for some extra storage room, you can basically get storage containers that fit under a bed. That’s basically if your bed has any sort of space under it of course. But you can find containers of any size depending on how much room you have down there…

9. Kitchen with Drawers and Cabinets

If you have the option to, why not create a kitchen with lots drawers and cabinets. Creating a kitchen with that extra storage space is great well —because you now have that extra storage space!

10. Foldable Furniture

One thing that people somehow always forget is that foldable furniture exists! Think about all the options! You could get the couch that doubles as a bed when you extend it, or foldable dining chairs that you only take out when you need or a foldable desk, you’d be surprised how much furniture can be made foldable!

We just bought a small apartment to use as an Air BNB location. We definitely needed some help with the decor though to make it feel a bit more spacious for guests while still being functional. There are a few updates we need to make still like a hardwood floor refinishing, but as soon as that is done we’re going to get to work on your tips to get this place rented out quickly! Thanks so much for sharing.

My tiny kitchen has a metal back door. I used heavy duty hook magnets to hang my produce bags. Magnetic spice shelves on the side of my fridge. Declutter and only keep what you truly need!!
