These 10 Unexpected Fall Color Combinations Deserve Way More Attention

I don’t know about you but with fall just around the corner, I’ve been thinking about the amazing color palette that we all love so much. You know, the browns, golds and greens that just scream autumn. It basically inspired this whole post.

Basically, I started thinking about unique color combinations to wear for fall, and I feel like we need to be a little more expressive and willing to try things outside the box.

It’s autumn and yes, we all love a good brown outfit or a classic brown and cream pairing. Burgundy is always a favorite too. But I’ve really been thinking about how you can step outside the box, especially if you’re the type of person who loves color.

There are so many fun, interesting and unexpected color combinations you can play around with and honestly, what better season than fall?

I know people usually expect you to be more adventurous with color during the warmer months but who says you can’t play around with color during autumn too? Because it’s such a season focused on layering and cozy pieces, I actually think you can have a lot of fun mixing different colors, textures and accessories to create really beautiful outfits.

So basically, this post is highlighting some interesting and unique color combinations you can play around with this fall. I think these are definitely color combinations you wouldn’t expect to work so well together but somehow they do. They’re cozy, stylish and fun, so definitely keep an open mind because I have a feeling you’ll leave with some outfit inspiration you weren’t expecting.

1. Grey + Pink

Grey and pink is honestly a color combination you would expect to pair well together, especially when you’re working with lighter shades of both colors. This one isn’t exactly unexpected but I still feel like it’s nice to see just how well the two colors work together. It’s a color combination we honestly don’t see all that often, even though it looks so good.

If you love simple, minimalist outfits and usually reach for greys and neutrals but you’re thinking about adding little pops of color, definitely reach for a soft pink. It gives grey such a softer feel instead of looking cold or overly minimal. So yes, grey and pink definitely belong together.

2. Burgundy + Grey

You know what? Burgundy and grey is more of a classic combination that we’re used to seeing during fall but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve a spotlight. If you’re searching for outfit inspiration, there’s something really pretty about the contrast between burgundy and grey. Grey has that soft, muted look while burgundy gives you this rich pop of color. It’s popular for a reason and it’s definitely a combination worth styling.

3. Brown + Baby Blue

I cannot explain how much I love baby blue paired with brown. It’s such a gorgeous color combination and one that feels a little more unique, or at least I don’t see it styled nearly as often. There’s something about that soft baby blue against a rich brown that just works. It’s unexpected but somehow still feels perfect for autumn. Definitely one you have to try.

4. Brown + Yellow

Yellow and brown honestly shouldn’t be surprising because the two colors work so well together, but I also feel like it’s one of those combinations you don’t see very often. There’s something so perfect about styling brown during autumn and using yellow to add a bright, fun pop of color. Yellow works especially well with brown when you choose softer pastel shades. It’s such an easy way to add a little personality to darker, moodier fall outfits.

5. Yellow + Grey

Coming off the previous color combination, I also want to highlight yellow and grey. There’s something really pretty about pairing these two together. While yellow and brown create a richer contrast, yellow and grey feels softer but still really eye-catching. If you’re already reaching for grey coats, grey sweaters and other grey pieces this autumn, why not add little pops of yellow to brighten everything up?

6. Brown + Grey

Brown and grey feels like one of those color combinations that shouldn’t work because they’re both darker, more muted colors. But surprisingly, they’re a match made in heaven. Honestly, what better season is there to wear a combination like this? Autumn is already full of rich, earthy tones and while this post is all about adding color, we can’t ignore just how good some of these darker combinations look together too.

7. Pink + Brown

I am absolutely obsessed with combining pink and brown. Like I’ve said before, brown is already amazing for fall but there’s something about adding pink that makes it even prettier. Pink pairs beautifully with brown and gives you such a fun way to add personality and little pops of color to outfits that might otherwise feel a bit too neutral.

8. Pink + Burgundy

Another surprising color combination that works beautifully for autumn is pink and burgundy. I mean, we all know and love burgundy during fall but pairing it with pink creates such a lovely look. Since the two colors are in the same family, they naturally complement each other while still creating enough contrast to stand out. It’s feminine, cozy and really pretty.

9. Olive Green + Brown

Olive green and brown is another incredible color combination. Out of every pairing I’ve talked about, I think this one fits the fall aesthetic the most. It literally screams autumn. Green and brown together just make so much sense and if you’re looking for a combination that feels effortless and seasonal, this is definitely it.

10. Red + Brown

Red and brown work so much better together than people expect. It’s not a combination you see all the time but there’s something about it that’s impossible to ignore. It just works. It’s bold, eye-catching and really pretty. If you love dressing in fun, statement-making outfits then red and brown is definitely one of those color combinations you should try this fall.
