It’s finally April! Which means that we’ve all somehow been infected with the urge to start aggressively and uncontrollable cleaning. And the fact that we are living in a pandemic is definitely not helping issues. Which is why at 2AM on a random weeknight, I found myself scrolling through tiktok and stumbling across some random cleaning hacks video. This led me down a dark rabbit hole (which I am just now climbing out of) in which I discovered so many cleaning hacks, I was dying to experiment with.
If you’re planning a big spring cleaning endeavor as well, these cleaning hacks will definitely have you thinking outside the box, and also discovering places you didn’t know needed to be cleaned. Spring cleaning can be fun if you make it so here are the 8 cleaning hacks that actually work!
8 VIRAL CLEANING HACKS THAT ACTUALLY WORK
1. MAKE YOUR BED SMELL AMAZING
I’m starting off this list with one of favorite hacks! This cleaning tip is such an easy way to freshen up your bedroom, especially for those days that you decide to have a laundry day and clean your sheets… All you need to do is mix baking soda with your favorite essential oil, like she did in this video, but I like to do it with fabric softener. So basically just mix baking soda with a few drops of essential oil (or fabric softener!) and sprinkle it all over your mattress for a good hour… It makes your bed smell so good!
2. THE DRAIN PIPE HACK
Clean your bathroom drain (or any other drain pipe in the house!) with baking soda (or what we’re now calling the magic powder that’ll fix all your problems). This hack is amazing if you have a weird smell coming from your drain and need to clear it up… On an unrelated note, who else thinks watching baking soda and vinegar fizz down the drain is so satisfying..
3. SATISFYING OVEN CLEANING HACK
Ok this post should have been called the 1000 baking soda cleaning hacks because this is yet another hack that uses baking soda. Ovens can get pretty disguising and crusty and this hack makes cleaning the oven so satisfying.
4. MAKE YOUR HOUSE SMELL LIKE A DREAM
Okay, this hack is lowkey genius and I hope I will not be the only one that actually feels that way. This is the easiest hack to make your house smell amazing and it honestly works. All you need is your favorite fabric softener, to mix with an equal amount of water and then to pour the mixture into a spray bottle! Just spritz the mixture all over your couches or curtains and your house will smell amazing!

Okay, I was today years old when I discovered that you could clean you blender by adding soapy water to the jar and running it……! How did I just discover this hack (?!) and why did it never occur to me before to try it?! Have you ever tried cleaning your blender this way? Next time I make a smoothie, I’m definitely going to try this to see if it works!
6. HOW TO CLEAN YOUR FAUCETS??
So there is this trend going around online about how you’re supposed to be cleaning your faucets/faucet filters and how there is supposedly all this gunk that builds up if you don’t clean them often. Now this is a hack I need to try out for myself, its just that it is so interesting to watch… Like I don’t already have so much to clean up, now I have to worry abut my faucets too??!
7. START CLEANING YOUR TILE GROUT
This hack is a little insane but it actually got me intrigued. Cleaning the grout of tiles is apparently something that shocks people? Because it’s something that most people never think to actually clean. Which is actually insane to me because I grew up cleaning this type of stuff and its just something I’ve always done… Which is why I’m always looking for a way to make the job faster. But I don’t know about this one… Toilet bowl cleaner, really?? But I’ve seen a lot of people online say that it works so… hey the worst it could do is not work.
8. THIS HACK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE
Maybe I was being a little over dramatic with that heading but I will swear by this hack until the day I die! Ok so you know that annoying rust that develops at the bottom of your clothing iron and it always ends up staining your cloths? This is such a simple hack to get rid of it that I absolutely swear by! All you need is a paracetamol tablet (or any simple over-the-counter painkiller that contains paracetamol) and a pair of tweezers and when the iron is hot just rub the paracetamol all over the rust and it just slides right off. (Just be careful not to inhale the smoke that may be created as a result)
