I want to start of by saying that everyone kinda has their own unique journey to take when it comes to mental health but one thing we probably all have in common is how difficult that journey is… So I won’t bore you with the specifics of the battles I’m fighting, but I will say that if you’re like me then you know what it feels like when your own your own mind turns against you… I don’t want to get into that because this is not going to be that kinda post…. But I want to talk about things that help me get out of the dark and negative “head-space” when my mind turns against me, not even get out, sometimes it’s all I can do just to get through, but these things I am about to talk about definitely help. I don’t know if I’m even making sense anymore so I’ll just jump into the post…
4 Healthy Habits That’ll Improve Your Mental Health
For the longest time, the first thing I did when I woke up was reach for my phone and spend like 30 minutes scrolling through social media and I noticed that was really setting the tone for what kinda day I would have. So I decided to drop that habit and do something we all can honestly never do too much of. Pray. Just taking that moment after I wake up to talk to God, it just honestly fills me with such light and positivity and peace and I feel like the tone of my day is so much brighter when I start it off like that. If you’re a Christian and even if your not I recommend praying just after you wake up, it just gives you this perspective on what’s really important and what you should go after and you’ll feel like you can achieve anything because you have God on your side.
To be honest I was one of those people that thought keeping a journal was so cheesy but then I tried it out and now I don’t think I could survive without my journals. Journaling is honestly a form of therapy for me, it really pushes me to get into my own head, to examine and analyze my thoughts and its become such a powerful tool for me to realize and correct some really negative thought processes that I have. I’m telling you, y’all are sleeping on journaling.
I never really realized how big an impact that Vitamin D had on like mood, at least for me, until the pandemic happened and we all had to start spending more time indoors. Going outside and just feeling the sun on my skin increased my mood like tenfold and it really shocked me how such a little thing makes such a big difference… So now I try to go out everyday on a little walk and it really just makes such a big difference in my day and makes me feel so much more positive.
It sounds so cheesy me saying ” drink water” because I was one of those people that thought water was disgusting and boring (I know, how am I still alive? lol)… Then I stumbled across those aesthetic tiktok girls with their aesthetic iced water with fruit chunks in it and there was no going back for me. Like swapping out all my drinks for water just made me feel so much cleaner and brighter. It’s such a small thing but it really does help.
So that’s it for this post you guys. I hope you pick up some healthy habits that’ll improve your life even a little bit. Tell me something that you do that makes your life feel brighter…
